With sadness, the School Sisters of Notre Dame share news of the passing of their dear sister and faithful servant of God, Sister Joseph Ann Quinene. Sister Joseph Ann died 2 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2023 in Wisconsin according to an announcement by the SSND. She was 80 years old. The funeral Mass and burial will take place in Wisconsin. Further details will be forthcoming. The SSNDs on Guam are holding a novena of Masses for Sister Joseph Ann at St. Francis Catholic Church in Yona at 7 a.m. from Friday, May 12 to Saturday, May 20. Sister Joseph Ann grew up in Merizo as part of a very large family. She was among 15 children born to the late Jose C. and Ana M. Quinene. Four of the Quinene siblings were girls and 11 were boys. Sister Joseph Ann entered the postulancy in 1965 at the age of 19. On May 2, 2015, at age 72 she celebrated her 50th year anniversary as a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame according to archive editions of the Umatuna Si Yu'os newspaper. A very loving, gentle person, Sister devoted much of her religious calling guiding children on Guam in schools operated by the School Sisters of Notre Dame, most notably at San Vicente Catholic School in Barrigada where she was principal for nine years.
