The Archdiocese of Agaña regrets to announce the death of Fr. Manuel P. Ombao, a priest of our local Church. Fr. Manuel, also known as Fr. Manny, passed away early this morning, Saturday, November 11, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Global City, Philippines. Coadjutor Archbishop Michael Byrnes offers his condolences and prayers for Fr. Manny and his family and friends.
The late Fr. Manny was born in Sorsogon City, Philippines, on April 13, 1946. He was ordained a priest on November 28, 1970 and served in various ministry in the Philippines and Saipan. In 1994, Fr. Manny began his ministry on Guam and was incardinated as a priest of the Archdiocese of Agaña in 2007. Within our archdiocese, Fr Manny served as:
• chaplain of Guam Memorial Hospital (1994-1998);
• pastor of St. Joseph Church, Inarajan (1998-2004);
• pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Toto (2004-2008);
• parochial vicar of San Juan Bautista Church (2008-2016); and
• pastor of San Juan Bautista Church (2016-2017).
Fr. Manny’s wake service and burial is being scheduled to take place in Sorsogon City, Philippines on November 16, 2017 and a corresponding Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica, Agaña, at 12:10 pm the same day. At San Juan Bautista Church, Ordot, Guam, the Mass and rosary is also being prayed for him beginning today at 5:00 p.m. Please keep Fr. Manny and his family in your prayers.
Saint Paul reminds us in his First Letter to the Thessalonians, “We do not want you to be unaware, brothers, about those who have fallen asleep, so that you may not grieve like the rest, who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose, so too will God, through Jesus, bring with him those who have fallen asleep.” (1 Thes. 4:13-14)
